That day was just like the other. Except that he was more disappointed. He should have learned by now but, strangely, he was still hoping. Nothing ever happens at his anniversary. It was forgotten most of the time and if he was lucky, he would receive his old uncle’s sock.
However, this year was different. He was not alone. His first friends he ever made were here.
His adopted family was here.
Warm. laugh and happiness were present on his birthday. For the first time of his life, Harry receive something he always wanted.
how did jk manage to write ootp and not come to the conclusion that the only career w any true meaning for harry james potter was as a goddamn professor at hogwarts like how do u write the da scenes and say “nah he’d want to be a wizard cop”
#but it would be so perfect??? #bc it would help normalize his life so much #like there would just be this generation of kids who are like #‘ugh who cares that he killed the dark lord he gAVE US HOMEWORK OVER BREAK’ #like the beginning of every year there would be the new first years who would freak out a little #but then it would calm down #and most of the students would literally forget #until like clockwork the fifth years would have their history of magic class on the second war #and they’d all show up to DADA looking a little awestruck and everyone would be extra quiet #and harry would give this kind of annoyed sigh—except it’s fake bc he TOTALLY knew this was coming #bc binns is a bro and he totally gives him a heads up every year #and harry wouldn’t have any lesson plans for the day and instead he would just sit at the front of the room and answer everyone’s questions #but otherwise everyone would just be like ‘professor potter!! i can’t get my patronus to work! help me!’ #and like they’d go home at the end of the year or for break and their parents—who ARE still starstruck by harry james potter #would pester their kids with questions#and the kids would just be like ‘merlin i don’t know?? potter’s such a huge dork you should hear him talk about proper wand movements’ #but they would all love him #and he would feel safe and normal and utterly accepted #AND I NEED THIS IN MY LIFE (via @cinematicnomad)
Not to mention it would be an ultimate Fuck You to Voldemort, who put a curse on the teaching position in the first place.
Like, Jo, I don’t want to tell you how to do your job, but COME ON
I already queued this but also, you do this, but still have Ginny become a famous Quidditch player. Imagine the first time Harry gets called “Ginny’s husband” before “the boy who lived” or “the chosen one.” Imagine how fucking pleased he’d be.
Imagine the first time a student comes up to him looking starry-eyed and Harry’s thinking “Oh no” because he doesn’t want to talk about Voldemort or the war but instead this little eleven year old is like “ARE YOU REALLY MARRIED TO WEASLEY FROM THE HOLLYHEAD HARPIES???!?? WHAT’S SHE LIKE?” and he’s like “oh thank god” because he could talk about Ginny all day.
in deathly hallows when harry and hermione go see james and lily’s gravestone and they see hundreds upon hundreds of messages scribbled on or around the grave that say “good luck harry!”, “here’s to the boy who lived” and others of the sort.
they all knew harry would come to see his parents, and everyone knew that in that moment he would grieve, just like they all did. All of those hundreds of people visited james and lily’s grave, and each one of them wanted to tell harry that although he was an orphan, he was loved by so many.
i also can’t help but think that the first message scribbled on there was “you are loved, harry” written by remus two nights after halloween. every visitor since has made their own addition over it, but if you look very closely near the bottom of the grave, you can see it. every full moon the message glows faintly.
harry potter was such a pure child like he went to a ghosts death day party, he talked to myrtle bc she was lonely, he set a snake free bc it was unhappy, he genuinely was friends with luna even thought people thought she was weird, he attended aragog’s funeral, he met some lanky kid on the train and his immediate reaction was to buy the whole fucking trolly to share with him, and then when they got to hogwarts and malfoy was talkin shit about this kid he met a few hours ago he just went oh no u didnt ima protect this one
hes just so pure feel free to add to this
Hermione: have you finished your homework?
Ron: yep, just got to dot the i’s and cross the t’s
Harry: and fill in all the other letters
[Sirius and Remus grumbling to each other as they prepare for lunch with the Dursleys.]
Sirius: Why did Lily have to anchor her protection spell to blood magic? I can’t believe we have to make nice with [gestures helplessly] the Dursleys.
Remus: Pity there’s nothing on godfather magic.
Sirius: There should be. I should invent one.
[Harry coos.]
Sirius: You hear that? Harry agrees with me. [to Harry] Your devilishly handsome, genius godfather is going to make a new protection spell for you so you don’t have to keep seeing your cousin whats-his-face.
Remus: Dudley.
Sirius: And another thing, who names their kid Dudley?
Remus: Who names their kid Sirius?
Sirius: Who names a werewolf Remus Lupin?
Remus: [bursts out laughing] Who names a werewolf Moony?
Harry: Moomy!
Sirius: Well, Harry likes it!
Remus: [picks up Harry] All right, all right. Let’s go. Try not to annoy Vernon this time.
Sirius: Who, Vermillion? We’re the best of friends.
Remus: Vernon.
Sirius: Exactly. Veruca and I get on very well.
Remus: [exasperated sigh]
I was on the bus thinking about Harry Potter tonight and I remembered the part where the Dementors all show up at the Quidditch game, and I remembered how they were all looking up at Harry, and I wondered why they would all be staring at him, and then I realized that it’s because he has two souls in him.
On this note, wouldn’t that also be a reason why Harry would have had a more negative reaction than his friends (even Ginny)? He was hearing his mother’s voice as she was protecting him, which in itself was his worst memory. but the Dementors were also forcing the piece of Voldemort to relive its worst memory as well… The memory of being ripped apart by the curse that backfired. No wonder Harry passed out so often.
I literally never thought about that.
HOLY
Oh FUCKING HELL, you just made me realize that it wasn’t Harry’s memory that was his father telling Lily to take Harry and run, and it wasn’t Harry’s memory of Lily screaming.
Here I was, just eating a cup of applesauce under the 14-year-long assumption that the reason a small infant was able to remember something was because this was a fictional world of magic, but no, now this entirely reasonable and somewhat less terrifying bubble has burst and I’m never going to recapture that innocence.
I’m going to fucking bed.
Harry: My dad didn’t STRUT!
Remus: *looks into camera like he’s on The Office*
