In a previous post you mentioned Marlene (McKinnon I’m assuming), Mary, and Dorcas and while I’ve seen their names floating around on Tumblr and I remember Marlene’s name from the books and I vaguely remember Mary being mentioned in Snape’s memories I still have no clue who they actually are and where they fit into the Marauders lives. Were they the girls who shared a dorm with Lily? And how do people know so much about them? (Is it from Pottermore because I haven’t gone on that in ages)

Mary, Dorcas and Marlene are Lily’s roommates yes

Dorcas is mentioned by Moody, she was in the first Order and she was killed by Voldemort.

Canon:
Marlene and her whole family was killed by Death Eaters before the Potters, she was in the Order.
Dorcas was killed by Voldemort before the Potters, personally, she was also in the Order.
Mary was the friend Lily references the most in Snape’s memories. We have no proof if she was in the order or if she lived or not.

Fanon:
Marlene is crazy and sassy and basically the embodiment of @askwhathasthiscometo
Dorcas is a bit less crazy, but still completely a marauder.
Mary is still a tiny character, and is still under represented.
Basically we turned Lily, Marlene, Dorcas, and Mary into the counterparts for the marauders. They get into just as much mischief as the boys, though are much better at not getting caught and most of the time their pranks are blamed on the boys. They are fiercely loyal to each other. Many people ship Marlene and Dorcas, which is always a very cute love story, often paralleling wolfstar.
Basically, we have no information so we created our own characters and we are your canon now, welcome and congrats.

know what makes me cry?

in deathly hallows when harry and hermione go see james and lily’s gravestone and they see hundreds upon hundreds of messages scribbled on or around the grave that say “good luck harry!”, “here’s to the boy who lived” and others of the sort.

they all knew harry would come to see his parents, and everyone knew that in that moment he would grieve, just like they all did. All of those hundreds of people visited james and lily’s grave, and each one of them wanted to tell harry that although he was an orphan, he was loved by so many.

i also can’t help but think that the first message scribbled on there was “you are loved, harry” written by remus two nights after halloween. every visitor since has made their own addition over it, but if you look very closely near the bottom of the grave, you can see it. every full moon the message glows faintly.
